Featuring lots of flowers

1. I recently found out I had too many holidays owed to me so was forced to take Monday off and book in two more long weekends in Feb :)
2. After missing Dad's birthday I made up for by finding him the perfect present
3. After all that panicking about running out of books to read I have a long list of books on hold at the library/written down in a to-buy list
4. We got out our ordnance survey map (these are really really detailed maps with public footpaths and things marked on them, very English and cool) and explored some embarrassingly near walks. (The sort of walk where you turn around and go: hey look, there’s our house!) Good news is I now feel a lot more familiar with my new home.
5. We went for a snowdrop walk yesterday in the woods at an old manor house, and it was wonderful. Snowdrops are my new favourite flower.
6. And not to sound like the English flower report, but now the daffodils are coming out! This is early but still very nice. They join the first bulb that flowered in my pot plants, a dwarf iris!
7. I just hopped out a hot bath so am feeling very relaxed.

Lots more lists are up over at Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast

I just noticed today that my neighbor's daffodils are blooming but I don't think mine are out of the ground. I could be wrong. Tomorrow I will go and see.

What is the perfect present for your dad?

Yay for daffodils in your own yard! I can't wait for my potted ones to bloom.

It's a travel DVD series about Eastern Europe from Michael Palin called New Europe. Not only is Dad a mad fan for Michael Palin, he wants to go to Eastern Europe soon. He knows about the series but we were both cranky when we discovered that you couldn't get it in the DVD region for Australia. He doesn't know it's out in Australia on Wednesday so it will be a lovely surprise (and because he lives in a poxy town they won't sell it anyway. FTW!).

I wouldn't worry about not having too many books to read. In the unlikely event you *do* run out, there will always be many people to recommend and/or lend books at you, which will solve the lack *and* leave them in your debt when you want them to read something in particular.
