I was tagged last week by HipWriterMama for the personal policies meme. But mine is the personal policy meme, as I can't think of any more :) Anyway, one important personal policy meme is reflected in my blog's title: There's always time for a book. I can't remember I time when I didn't love reading and have always devoured books. But I remember multiple occasions throughout my life when someone (a relative, family friend or even a librarian) would look at me happily reading, shake their heads, and say "you like reading now, but you won't have time when...". When being: - I went to high school - I went to senior years at high school - I went to uni - I had exams - I got a full time job Needless to say, I've always fitted in recreational reading. Now it's "when you have children" (you have to love the presumption that just because I'm a young woman in my 20s I'm obviously planning to have children). I don't really resent this type of comment. I know that even if I have to read less temporarily at some stages of my life, if I get any say in it there will always be time for a book. OK, and I think that they're a miserable old coot as well :) Tags: books, meme

I was tagged for this meme by Blog from the Windowsill earlier this week, but was away for work and internetless. I'm reading two books at the moment for fun. The first is The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini, which is good but I'm having some problems with it that, now that I think of it, will probably make up a separate post. The second book (started as I wanted something lighter for when I was away) is P.D. James' A taste for death. I have only read a few of James' mysteries but am disconcerted by the special mention the messiness of suspect's homes get - and it's always the suspicious, lowlife people with messy homes. After reading about how the slutty, evil person has unwashed dishes from the previous meal sitting in the sink and a bra slung over a bureau I start feeling like I will be arrested for murder if the police break in unexpectedly. But apart from this I'm enjoying the book :) Um, I tag anyone who wants to share what they're reading. Or come up with an even stranger complaint about a book than me :) UPDATE: I thought there was a non-work non-fiction book I was reading, I had an itchy good-book-not-finished feeling in my head. It's Madeleine L'Engle's A circle of quiet, which I am enjoying at a relaxed pace. I notice others are doing their TBR piles, but I am far too tired to do so. If there are books of note you shall hear about them at some stage! Tags: books, meme

I have been tagged by Kathleen to fill out a guilty pleasures meme: Ground Rules: The first player of this “game” starts with the topic, “5 Guilty Pleasures” and people who get tagged need to write an blog entry about their 5 Guilty Pleasures as well as state this rule. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names.
I've only come up with two guilty pleasures as I usually either feel guilty or pleased with what I do rather than a combination (and usually the latter). You can see why I don't usually fill out memes.
1. Twisties. These scarily orange coloured "cheese" flavoured chips are sadly an irresistible guilty pleasure of mine. The website description says it all: an "extruded" snack. I don't really want to be a fan of something that probably shouldn't be counted as food. Luckily I don't give into temptation too often :)
2. Reading on the couch while observing the undone housework. I indulge in this guilty pleasure much too often. I don't really want the washing up to go mouldy. But reading with my feet up on the couch is pleasurable enough to outweigh the guilt a lot of the time.
There are many books I would count as guilty pleasures, too - ones that I know are pretty brainless and badly written, but that are nice breaks for the brain. However, seeing as I don't want to re-read these books, I can't remember their names. I can recognise their type quite quickly though :)
I won't tag anyone, but please feel free to share your guilty pleasures! Tags: books, food, humorous trivia, meme
